A new team, Matrix Motorsport, has announced it will join the Renault UK Clio Cup grid in 2018 with former British Touring Car Championship racer Andy Wilmot and accomplished club-level motor sport competitor Jeff Alden as two of its drivers.

Wilmot raced in the BTCC in 2015 and has this year contested several Ginetta sportscar races. Alden has enjoyed success in the Time Attack and club racing categories and is behind the new Matrix squad.

He commented: “Setting up this team is something we’ve been working on for a number of years, so it’s great to finally see our plans become a reality.

“We intend to start by establishing ourselves at BTCC events by competing in the UK Clio Cup before moving into other areas of motor sport. Our long term plan is to compete in the BTCC so there are some exciting times ahead!”
